The island of Kauai is the oldest and northernmost of the main islands in the state of Hawaii. Kauai, also called the "Garden Isle", is noted for its dramatic jagged cliffs, lush valleys and an abundance of outdoor activities, such as hiking, kayaking, backpacking, camping, snorkeling and surfing.
Our Kauai online photo archive contains photographs of Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge, Haena State Park, Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park, Kokee State Park and Waimea Canyon State Park.
One popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts is the Napali coast where hikers can hike the Kalalau trail along the rugged, yet spectacular coastline. As the trail winds along 3,000 ft. high sea cliffs they can stop at several waterfalls, including Hanakapiai Falls and Hanakoa Falls. Another popular attraction is the 10 mile long, 3,567 foot deep Waimea Canyon that has been called the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific."
The beauty of Kauai is also found on its beaches. In 2009, Hanalei Bay beach, a two-mile crescent-shaped beach was selected as No. 1 on a list of top 10 beaches.
