The restored train station at the mostly abandoned town of Thurmond, West Virginia also serves as a visitor center for the National Park Service. The Thurmond historical district is part of the New River Gorge National River. During the height of coal mining in the New River Gorge, Thurmond was a properous town with banks and other businesses.
