The land in eastern Washington along the Snake River appears to be dry in this photo taken at 1:12 p.m. on an Alaska Airlines flight from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to St. Louis, Mo. At the time this photo was taken on July 31,2017 the state of Washington was experiencing very dry conditions. In Seattle,
Seattle’s record-breaking 55-day dry streak would later end on Aug. 12, when 0.02″ of rain fell. This was the first time measurable precipitation was recorded in the city since June 17.
